Kick Start January

Feeling the effects of Christmas?

Christmas – that special time of year.  We have fun with our families, watch movies, let our hair down and relax the exercise regime.  But now January is here, Christmas is over and there’s nothing fun on the horizon.  It’s dark and miserable outside, we have all spent up, over indulged and we long for some sunshine – so we begin thinking about our next holiday and wondering if we’ll fit in the summer wardrobe.

So let’s start as we mean to go on.  Time to put 2015 behind you and focus on a fitter, stronger, healthier you in 2016.  We all want to look and feel amazing and what better motivation than imagining yourself on holiday?

I don’t believe in fad diets.

I have witnessed the effects fad diets can have.  They create a cycle of weight loss and further weight gain which becomes difficult to break.  It seems tempting when the glossy ads say you can have a slimmer body in just 4 weeks (or whatever it may be), but this really is “too good to be true”.

Exercise and healthy eating comes easy to some people – they love hitting the gym and have a routine that keeps them fit, healthy and happy – but for some people it isn’t quite that simple.  A lot of people get stuck in a rut, battle with their weight year in and year out and the thought of taking up any sort of exercise fills them with dread.

I don’t believe a sudden vigorous exercise regime is the answer. All too often people embark on crazy exercise routines and ridiculously low calorie diets in a bid to fight the fat!  This is a recipe for disaster as you will quickly become exhausted and quit exercise altogether because you simply can’t maintain it and you don’t have the time.

I hear this from women all the time and can totally understand where the barriers and how their weight or fitness can spiral out of control.

For every week following our Tuffit launch on 13th January we will be giving you a weekly Tuffit Training Plan to follow with lots of hints and tips to help you discover the new, healthier and fitter you! In the meantime, here are my top tips to help you find your Fit for Keeps in 2016.

Top Tips

1) Let’s start by getting rid of all the left over naughties from Christmas….. chocolates, cakes, biscuits and fizzy drinks…and replenish your fridge and cupboards with wholesome, healthy foods.  Drink plenty of water and include lots of vegetables into your diet.   Always include a healthy breakfast to kick start your metabolism (the rate at which your body burns fat).

2) A good start would be to wrap up and go for a brisk walk, get some fresh air, blow the cobwebs away and get the blood pumping.  You will be amazed at how good you feel after just 20 mins activity!  Park the car further away from work, take the stairs instead of the lift…you get the idea.  Include three longer walks or runs per week, gradually increasing the time. As you get fitter include some hill or stair walks/sprints.

3) Take some time to think about what is going to work for you long term.  Gyms are generally busy in January with people filled with the best intentions but the reality is that most don’t keep it up. Many of my clients struggled for years before I helped them find something that worked for them.  Do some research, talk to friends, build a new routine for yourself that makes fitness a lifestyle rather than a phase.  Remember, fitness is for life not just for the New Year!

Why not Tuffit your way through 2016?

The Tuffit is a super piece of kit we developed with all the usual barriers in mind.  It will give you a good mix of everything – cardio and resistance training, both of which are essential ingredients to creating a toned and healthy body.  We know from our research that people are really looking for a solution that gives good quality instruction, almost like a personal trainer in their own home.  So I’ve worked really hard to give you all the tools required to be able to exercise safely and effectively with plenty of variety.

The Tuffit really is the perfect solution to get a fab, no fuss workout at home.

We can’t do the work for you I’m afraid, but Fit for Keeps can give you loads of support along the way.

Here’s to a fit and fabulous 2016!

Lots of love
