I love talking about hair.
We girls LOVE our hair. It’s so important to us – bad hair can make you feel out of sorts all day whereas with good hair you feel as though you can take on the world. I used to wash my hair daily before I had kids. It was a critical part of my getting ready routine and I frankly felt just horrible if I hadn’t washed and dried it.
Then I had my children and with less time I realised could manage every other day with the help of my trusty dry shampoo and a bobble.
But hair and exercise are a tricky combination.
Not only do we have to try to fit a workout into our busy schedule, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll also be trying to fit it in so that it coincides with an appropriate hair wash cycle.
I try to manage my workouts / hair wash cycle according to the following rules:
- I exercise just before I need to wash it
- I exercise on a day when the after effects of a sweaty workout won’t affect anything because I’m not planning to see anyone until after I’ve washed it
- Or I exercise when my hair is clean enough before the workout that I can probably salvage the overall crowning glory for the rest of the day with the help of a liberal spray of dry shampoo
But it gets even more complicated than this.
What about days when you wake up, know it needs washing, know you will be working out but not until lunchtime but between waking up and lunchtime you have to do the school run and be seen in public? Do you just stick a hat on? Or is it ok to have ‘fitness hair’ if you’re wearing fitness clothes? And why am I the only person I’ve ever seen with ‘fitness hair’?
It’s all a balancing act. Seriously people, if I’m squeezing in a 30 or 45 minute workout, I almost need that to be instead of a wash and blow dry in order to fit it in. Although, maybe the solution to my dilemma is staring me in the face. Especially when you factor in that exercise can make you feel on top of the world.
Here’s my new fitness hair formula:
Good Hair = Feeling Amazing
Feeling Amazing + Workout = Amazing Workout
Amazing Workout = Feeling Amazing.
If I’m having a good hair day before I Tuffit, then the workout should be so good I’ll be on cloud nine afterwards and won’t care about my fitness hair.
Until next time peeps, I’m off to wash and Tuffit.
